OUR STORY

What is an angan? In the literal sense, an angan is an open courtyard, placed centrally in the home. 

For us, it was the sound of butter being churned early in the morning, the thump you heard as the roti was set into the tandoor (clay oven), or the gentle slice of the knife as an elder prepared the vegetables for lunch.

The angan was the humming of the sewing machine, as someone stitched a brand new suit or mended an older one; the place where people sat and concentrated as they embroidered a small handkerchief or applied henna on a cousin’s hand. 

The angan was a place of creation, ideas, discussion, and so much more. It was also the place where, at one time or another, a young artist honed their craft, or a skilled artisan worked on their latest project. 

Growing up in a small town in Pakistan, almost everything was handmade. And more often than not, it had come to life in someone’s angan. The things made were few, but they were lasting in quality. That is the way that we lived our lives,  and that is the way we want to manage Angan Creations. 

We aim to go back to the simplicity of the very angans that we grew up in - small quantities and lasting quality. Everything you’ll see from us is handmade by Pakistani artisans who have refined their skills for generations. We are so excited to share with you the unique craftsmanship and art that we grew up with - from our angan to yours.
